oops! we did it again.

we said yes.

and we are the foster family for another lucky(?) puppy.2010 06 159 2010 06 160 her name is pebbles.
and she is a dalmation/lab mix.

but i should have written this post yesterday.

because if i’d have written this post yesterday, i would have told you how cute she is.  i would have told you how mellow she is.  and how great she is with the kids.  i would have mentioned how much ray loves it when she stands up to him and puts her paws on his shoulders, like she wants to dance with him (and not plow him over).  and maybe how proud i was of myself for going to pick her up, with only ray and mandy’s asher, from the animal shelter.  how i totally pretended that i was an animal lover and that i was completely comfortable around animals and stuff.  and i couldn’t forget to mention how cute ray was when he insisted on putting half of the suburban’s back row down in the back so pebble’s kennel could be right next to him on the ride home.  and maybe i would have mentioned how elli almost cried when she saw her (and i think that my next-door-neighbor, lacy, actually did cry when he saw her [just don’t tell him i said that]).  and that i love that she doesn’t bark.  and how great it makes me feel as a mom to do something for my kids that is a real stretch for me  just because my kids really want it.  i probably would have mentioned how fun it was to see how excited damon was to have a puppy in our own backyard.  and how NOT excited our cats were to have her around.  i would have talked up how excited all the neighborhood kids were about the dog and how many little visitors we had knock on our door (or just walk in) because the word had traveled so fast:  “did you hear?  the barrys got a new puppy!”  i would have added how great elli thought it was that she was able to take the dog with her up to the baseball park to see all her friends (and how unfair all the other kids thought it was that she got to have the dog with her all by herself).  and that maybe i was thinking how much more fun it would be this time since the weather is (supposedly) getting better and the kids will be able to play with her more outside.  and how i think the kids will be more responsible in caring for a dog this time around.  i could have left out the part about the whining and whimpering we heard for a good hour last night from her kennel before she finally gave up and went to sleep.

if i would have written this post last night, i would have maybe even thought out loud that i might actually like this puppy.  I might even think she’s cute.  and nice.  and do-able.

but, alas, i didn’t write this post last night.

and since i’m writing this post now- almost 24 hours later- let’s just say i remember now why i don’t like animals.

why this paper towel is on my blue shag rug.

  1. Hahaha!!! Oh my. My sister-in-law returned a dog to Oregon because she got a dog that wouldn't stop whining. Matt says the key is giving them an article of clothing of yours for them to sleep with.

I have no idea if he's right about that, but it's wroth a try.

Good luck with the house training. :)
