C.H.E.

tonight for sporadic family home evening, we were taught by my nephews’ words in the form of letters from their missions.  we learned about p-days and tudo bom and MTC’s and CTM’s and the horrible thought of eating ham sandwiches for breakfast everyday and about praying with a specific purpose and about working hard to pass the days quickly and connecting with people in a way that shows them you love and care about them and about the purpose of a visa (not the credit kind) and finally about how the best part of a missionary’s day might very well be is when they receive mail.

it was delightful.

and then we went to the post office and got some of their free flat-rate priority mail boxes (aren’t those the best things ever?) and headed off to target.  where each of us was allowed to choose one thing to include in a care package for one of my nephews.  which turned into two things each.  and then maybe three.   and then the begging started.  and can’t they please just buy one thing for themselves, too?  with their own money?  please??!!!

and it was not delightful.

then it reminded us why all seven of us don’t go shopping together.  so we took all of the kids back home to have emma put them to bed and damon and i ended our family home evening as a couple on a date.

and that was delightful.  i heart Couple Home Evening.

  1. i love reading their letters. i don't love that i haven't yet taken the time to write either one of them. i love that you are sending them a care package so that i can procrastinate that idea for a little bit longer.

  2. Speaking as a former missionary, your nephew will be pleased beyond words to receive your care packages. Speaking as a father, your children are now more likely to serve missions than they were two days ago. Speaking as a husband, agree--hooray for CHE!
