my current obsession

 2009 05 005

frozen yogurt with fresh fruit (mango chucks, kiwi, and diced strawberries), maybe some chocolate chips, and ALWAYS Fruity Pebbles.

the frozen yogurt doesn’t surprise me at all, but the fruity pebbles totally threw me.  i hate fruity pebbles.  i would never choose to eat a bowl of fruity pebbles.  but my wonderful friend, mandy, introduced me to this specific concoction at a local restaurant (Saigon City) last year and i have to admit it was amazing!  The Fruity Pebbles totally make the treat.

The fresh fruit is a bit surprising to me as well because i don’t like fruity things.  i love [perfectly ripened] fresh fruit, but not in my ice cream and definitely not in my yogurt.  gross.

and the funny thing is it’s not even a pregnancy thing.  i loved this sweet delight before i even got all weird about food.  i just rarely allowed myself to have it because it can be pricey.  but cost is out the window right now and i have treated myself to this exact treat more times than i’ve admitted to damon so far this pregnancy.  the only danger in treating myself to this is that it will become something i loathe after my pregnancy because it will remind me of “those months when i was miserably nauseous” and will instantly lose its appeal.  if you’ve ever been pregnant, you know exactly what i’m talking about.

this treat reminds me of the frozen yogurt shop inside the Revco shopping complex by the bowling alley in Glendale, Arizona.  I can still see that sweet lady’s face that served us our soft serve frozen yogurt every time we were lucky enough to sneak away and buy some.  she reminded me of Alice from Mel’s Diner.  oh the memories.

i wish we had a more local frozen yogurt shop right here in redmond so i didn’t have to drive (yuck) to bellevue to splurge.  but then again, maybe i’m lucky to not have one so close to me.

if you haven’t tried this wonderful delight, treat yourself to one in your local neighborhood.  so yummy.

  1. I never would have imagined Fruity Pebbles on ice cream. Weird! I'll try it sometime.

  2. gross. nothing about that combination sounds appealing to me. okay, so the frozen yogurt ... but none of the add-ins. glad you have found something to treat yourself to that is still appetizing. don't the fruity pebbles get soggy? don't remember revco ... thrifty, yes. still also haven't tried red mango. there are a few frzoen yogurt shops that have opened up here recently - i haven't even gone in because i'm afraid of the price {and potential addiction}. maybe i'll have to try this place when i'm up there next. just not with the fruity pebbles, fruit chunks or chocolate chips.

  3. I made Fruity Pebbles Treats one day for a soccer game because I didn't have any rice crispies. Your post just reminded me of this. They're just like rice crispy treats only with Fruity Pebbles. You'll have to give them a try sometime and see what you think.

  4. surprisingly the fruity pebbles do not get soggy. brooke- i'm totally going to make you try this exact mix. i was turning my nose up at mandy's suggestion also, but she made me trust her and it was seriously the best thing ever. you will try it- and you WILL love it.
amanda- i have actually tried those fruity pebble treats. i think i liked them, but too sweet for me right now. my husband LOVES fruity pebbles so he'd probably love that take on rice krispies treats. i don't know that i've ever made them myself. take brooke's kids again so she can go splurge at red mango- maybe she'll bring one back for you. :)
