mother’s day, revisited

a cookbook with a compilation of treasured recipes from each member of her 6th-grade class.  the recipe she submitted was puff oven pancakes.  i love the detail on the cover of my cookbook.  nobody else got one like mine because this is all ellison’s artwork.  pretty amazing, huh?

from emma:                                                

a beautiful, handmade card that lists all the ways i’ve helped her grow:

• teaching me to walk in the light of the Lord
• giving me meals
• teaching me to pray
• helping me get an education
• buying me clothes
• showing me the right and wrong
• reassuring and encouraging me
• comforting me

what i love about emma’s gift is not only that she signs her name with her full name {Emma Elizabeth Barry}- which she does on every note she writes me, but her list is about the really important things in life.  I thought maybe she made this list in Activity Days or somewhere church-related because most of her list is spiritual, but she really made it in school.  very impressive, that emma of mine.

what i love about his card is that he put Trademark [TM] symbols all over the front and back.  he was just noticing the TM letters on some Lego Star Wars products he had and was asking questions about what it meant a couple weeks ago.  I told him it was something you got so nobody could copy your idea.  so cute that he used them for “best mom” and his heart he drew.

i also loved the things he said in his card.  some of my favorites:

My mom is the prettiest when she _________  he actually crossed out “when she” and wrote ALL THE TIME.  seriously, could he be any cuter?

If I could give my mom ANYTHING I wanted for Mother’s Day, it would be _______ A ROBOT THAT WOULD DO ANYTHING YOU WANTED IT TO DO  (maybe this was the $5000 gift he was referring to?)

And the biggest shocker:

My mom makes me feel special by ______ TAKING ME TO THE LEGO STORE.  (I had no idea….)  :)

also loved the YOUR REALLY NICE reassurance at the bottom of the card. 

obviously, there is no gift better than another.  they all make me feel like the luckiest mother in the world.
