advice to myself

for beginning Daylight Savings Time 2010 (spring forward):

Do remember [before 8=9 a.m.]
Don’t plan a vacation to end the night before DST begins
Don’t get home at midnight (= 1 am) the night before…
Don’t get sick
Do have your child’s primary talk written before you realize you’ve lost an hour
Do also have the RS lesson read so you’re prepared to enrich the women with your meaningful thoughts
Don’t expect your children to stay awake during sacrament meeting after you’ve kept them out until 1 a.m.
Do still expect your children to sit upright in the pew even though they want to lay on your lap
Don’t wear short-sleeves to church when it’s snowing outside in March (and your body has acclimated to 84-degree comfort)
Do have dinner figured out before you leave on your trip
Don’t lay down “for a few minutes” at 4:15 p.m.
Don’t set your expectations high for a great photo-full post of your super fun time at Great Wolf Lodge
Don’t expect your kids to actually fall asleep at bedtime (really = 6 o’clock)
Do still put your children to bed at their bedtime [nighttime triaminic- remember?]
Don’t have your entry full of stuff to unpack when you’re already down an hour
Don’t expect anyone to be in a good mood
Don’t feel guilty about writing this [lame] post even though you have so much more you want to post about your fun weekend [overhwelming]
Don’t try and figure out why that extra hour makes such a huge difference to your mind and body

  1. Amen to a lot of that! I have to tell you, our RSP is out of town so I got to cover ward council this morning. I didn't realize I'd be going to a 6 AM meeting!!! (Essentially, because my body hasn't acclimated to the time change.) It was brutal. Especially after being up 3x that night with kids. Ever since becoming a mom I've seriously thought about getting this law reversed. One hour can make all the difference in the world.

  2. i thought about you last night when we remembered the set our clocks back and wondered if, in all your vacation excitment, you realized it was dst. i guess that would be a no. andy came upstairs after gaming online til about one where i was half-awake and tried to have an energetic conversation with me, which i considered joining, until he proceeded to the alarm clock, set the time forward and hour and proclaimed that it was now 2 am. at which point, i said forget it - i'm really going to bed. and that lasted for about ten minutes before asher woke up and kept us up until about 5. it was a great start to beginning daylight savings. anxious to see and hear about your trip, though.

  3. Last night I thought we were running on time for bed. Until I realized our VCR clock was wrong.

  4. my kids don't seem to be affected, BUT. Yes there is a big but. THey have been sick since last wednesday with High fevers, Pink EYE, and sinus infections. So the time change hasn't affected us. They have slept so much through it. I don't think they care. We still have to change some of the clocks though. Taking meds with messed up clocks is hard to do. :)
