the music of my life

is not necessarily the music of my life by choice.  it is the music that i am subjected to, day in and day out, from the moment i wake up to the moment ray is finally asleep.  and it’s on full-blast

it started with the CARS soundtrack that he got for Christmas 2 years ago.  we’ve listened to that loud c.d. more times than my brain can count.  he knows the association between every song on the c.d. and its movie-scene-counterpart.  pretty impressive.

then came Wee Sing 25th anniversary celebration.   a delight to my ears.  i just recently figured out why this music always brings thoughts of my sister staci to my head every time i hear it:  because it was the soundtrack of my life when i was a nanny for her 16 years ago, too.  in VHS format.  those boys loved those ridiculously cheesy Wee Sing movies.  Ryan and Robby- do you remember?  big rock candy mountain, skid-a-marink-a-doo, and a bunch of other annoying songs that get stuck in my head.

next was alan jackson’s bible songs c.d.:  Precious Memories (favorite songs?  “the blood and lamb” one and “standing on the promises of God”).   this happens to be my c.d. and i used to like it- until it became the music of my life, not by choice.

currently:  Pepper, Amy, and Reese’s favorite mix c.d., including HOT DIGGITY DOG (a personal fave [to turn off]), 9 planets (not anymore) in the solar system, and states and capitals.

and now we have come full circle:   the CARS soundtrack has been discovered after nearly a year in hiding.  and it is the music of my life as i write this very post.  so enjoyable.

his favorite button:  the + volume

I am not exaggerating when i say this kid listens to music all day long.  well, maybe a bit:  sometimes when ray’s on the trampoline or next-door, he doesn’t know that i’ve turned it off so i can’t say it’s on ALL day.  but if he’s within earshot and he hears that volume get turned down or the power go off, i am in serious trouble.

the sony boombox that damon gifted me for my scrapbooking space several valentine days ago?   he totally thinks it’s his.  he just recently discovered that the boombox is PORTABLE- and he can carry it.  It now follows him to the dinner table, to the bathroom and any other room in the house that has an outlet (= all of them).

recently, he was asking if he could bring the c.d. with him in the car and i told him yes.  he quickly ran back up to get his boombox and started to go out to the car with it in tow.  he was totally confused when i told him we didn’t need the boombox, just the cd.  it took some convincing, but he allowed me to show him the special place in the car that his cd fit just perfectly in.  now we literally have the music of my life playing everywhere we are.

don’t get me wrong:  i love the music of my life.  sometimes i just wish it was a different song.

do you love it as much as i do?

  1. Let's see....I'm really debating whether I should ask my [now] 18 year olds if they remember how much they loved the wee sing videos. I think they would be horrified to know this information is out in the blogosphere world now. I, however, do remember ALL those silly songs from about 10 of the Wee Sing VHS videos we {still} own. Any...you'll soon learn that with teenagers there are things you NEVER mention!!

  2. oh my ... we are in trouble. those two combined with my two {of which i also have video of the music of my life that i will post one day} are going to be a nightmare! i totally feel your pain .. in a different tune .. but feel the pain nonetheless. and good luck with the cd controls on your 15 hour drive to utah ... you should have waited until you were done with that to show him that it works in the car.

  3. Thats such a great video. That's so cool you could film them and show them for blackmail later. hehehehe Use it when they least expect it too! lol David remembers those wee sings. I barely do. I know some of them now that I have kids but i don't remember listening to them growing up.

  4. Haha!!! At first when you said he listens to Cars, I thought you meant the band "The Cars". Ok, I get it now. That video is adorable. Is the vacuum story next?
