mystery unveiled

circuit city closed its doors today.  damon got sucked into the final weeks of deals and frequented the store almost every other day just to see what things were going for.  he was actually leaving work to go.  “it’s like an addiction,” he worried.   earlier this week, he convinced his boss and another co-worker to go with him to check out the electronics deals. 

my husband is a smart man (sometimes).  he walked away with a 42-inch plasma flat-screen t.v. for 50 bucks.  but it didn’t happen how you think it happened.

he’s even smarter than i give him credit for.  because what happened is that his boss (single, his paycheck stretches a lot further than ours) got sucked into the deals at circuit city and felt the need to upgrade and buy a new 60” flatscreen t.v. …and he didn’t have anything to do with his measly 42-incher at home.  so he offered it to damon.  sweet. 

i am a cheap-skate.  and we also don’t watch t.v. very much around here.  though i’ve desperately wanted to replace our huge bulky t.v.’s for flatscreens, it’s never been at the top of my list because it just seems like such a waste of money.  [because it is] 

well, since we finally will have a decent t.v., that meant we needed some “real” furniture for the playroom.  funny how that $50 t.v. suddenly got very expensive for us…

sometimes the stinky economy can be a very good thing because we happened upon a fun store that was closing its doors yesterday.  and we got these really cool bean-bag-style furniture pieces for about 60% off.  it’s something we’ve looked at before, but never bought.  but they’re actually perfect for this playroom space and for our current needs.  we bought four: an 8-foot round foam-bag, a 6-foot, and (2) 3-foot ones for the girls’ room- which is right off the playroom. 

our friends, roger and mandy, stopped over unexpectedly last night while we were unloading our new purchases.  the bean-bags (no beans involved; not sure of the proper term) come vacuum-sealed and stuffed really tightly in a sleeping-bag kind of canvas bag.  once you expose them, they start to expand.  damon mentioned that maybe we should just cut the canvas bags with scissors, but all of us were like, “no.  we shouldn’t cut this bag; that’s a waste.  let’s just pull them out.  it won’t be that hard.” 

20 minutes, a lot of laughs, mandy on the floor, and a pair of scissors later, we finally got that first bag out of its canvas wrapping.  it was hilarious how laborious it was.  and then we finally gave in and just used the scissors to cut open the other bags.  and somewhere in there, damon casually mentions, “the sales-guy was right:  it is a lot easier to use scissors.”  and roger, mandy and i were like, “the sales guy TOLD you to use scissors?  you didn’t tell us that!”  here we were trying so hard to not have to cut the canvas bag and that’s what we’re supposed to have done all along. 

today, the new “furniture” was un-veiled to the kiddos.     it was the greatest thing ever- until someone got their eye poked out (or whatever happened).

3.  an unfortunate ending.

which brought big smiles to my face.  i miss you, chad.
