birthday bake-off

well, it wasn’t really for a birthday, but since today is my mom’s birthday and my awesome sister put me to shame with her post, i’ll lie and say it was in honor of my mom’s birthday (that my kids didn’t even know about at the time).

today they divided themselves into 2 teams:  Ellison and Savannah; Emma and Ray.  Nolan was busy planning a family board-game night.  Here were the rules:

1. make as big of a mess as you can, but blame it on the other team so that you don’t have to clean it up.
2. when you’re forced to clean it up anyway, make sure to sloppily load both dishwashers so that there are still lots of dishes left in the sink
3. use as many pans and cooling racks as possible
4. slop as much frosting and cake batter on the floor and counters as you can
5. lick the beaters
6. eat more of the frosting than you use on the cake
7. argue over whose cake looks better
8. use random things to garnish your cake
9. leave the cakes out on the counter for mom to put away
10. complain about your cake tomorrow when you wake up and your cake is still sitting out on the counter, hard and dry

 Team 1:  chocolate cake, store-bought chocolate frosting, and homemade sour cream frosting (purple)- and coconut sprinkled on the heart after the picture was taken

Team 2:  Party rainbow chip cake with store-bought cherry frosting mixed with marshmallow creme and covered in crushed cashews, coconut, and freshly-shaved milk chocolate

OK, grandma- since we did this all for you (wink, wink)- and because these delicious cakes are still sitting on our counter, untouched- YOU get to be the judge.  which one looks the best- and which one do you imagine will taste the best?  and- remember at least one of the contestants will be reading this blog in the morning.
