we were more sunburned than we originally thought.
we both laughed at each other when we saw how ridiculous we looked this morning.
{and then we put lots of aloe vera on our burned parts}
so we took today off.
off from the sun, that is.
all that really means is that we read our books from our lanai instead of the beach
and i took a nap in my bed instead of on the beach
and we ate lunch at a restaurant instead of at the beach
and we drove around town a bit more instead of staying put at the beach.
but the best part of the day {for me) came out of nowhere.
breakfast: blackened ahi eggs benedict
wow.
and macadamia nut banana pancakes
taking these pictures in front of our rental cottage was close to the best part of my day. a lot of laughing as we tried to get the angle just right. the last picture kills me. i was laughing so hard i had tears running down my cheeks. we are true seattle-ites- when we can’t look anywhere near the sun, even when the sun isn’t even out and even when the sun is behind us…and squint.
dinner: pineapple, shrimp, raisins, cashews, chicken fried rice
elli, i thought you’d love the carrot flower and cucumber leaf as a garnish
volcano soup: ahi, scallops, shrimp, lemongrass, among other things (including cilantro).
but this is what made my day today:
do you recognize it?
were you born in the seventies?
did you grow up in arizona?
surely, they had these everywhere growing up, but i have very specific memories of this from in front of the fry’s grocery store in glendale arizona.
i about died when i saw one in hanalei town, hawaii.
kristen, brooke, pepper, chad, matt, mom- surely someone has got to remember how exciting this was?
i swear it was so much bigger when i was a kid. the ride around was like being on a ferris wheel. i couldn’t believe how small the circumference was from my adult perspective.
was this the best quarter mom ever spent- or what?
That shrimp dish looks incredible!!
ReplyDeleteNote to all ----- sunburn remedy......
...... Two asprin once you can tell you have a sunburn and then two more 4 hours later.
The only thing that has ever worked for this white girl.
It's good you didn't post all those chicken photos and then end up having chicken for dinner. The food there looks fabulous! And I totally missed out. Our grocery store had nothing like that.
ReplyDeletei don't remember one of those at any grocery store, but it is the likeness of one of my kids' favorite ride at chuck e. cheese. looks like a wonderfully {expensive} vacation. did you forget sunglasses?
